Flawed Modern Missionary Methods

Flawed Modern Missionary Methods Summary: This article is my view of why some of the way we do things in missions today is just wrong.

Topics are:
1) Missionaries are distanced from church people.
2) We expect missionaries to put on a song and dance show for the church people, but the churches never let them actually do what is their ministry.
3) We are locked into a Madison Avenue mentality that says, only with spending a lot of money can you do anything serious.
4) We have distorted and destroyed biblical spirituality.
5) We are experts at missions, all the while never “producing” or “reproducing” ourselves.

Missionary Attrition (Dropouts)

Missionary Attrition

Missionary Attrition (Dropouts) is my thoughts on missionary dropouts. I saw an interesting article here, Dropouts-Burnouts-Forceouts-Never-Should-Have-Goneouts, which I will use as an introduction to my thoughts on the subject.

Missionary Attrition (Dropouts)

Introduction

Let me begin by saying that it is extremely expensive to get a missionary on the foreign mission field working. Besides the years of personal and educational preparation that the missionary himself has to shoulder, once he “officially begins deputation” the costs are shared or shouldered mainly by local churches and the people of God. This “business of missions” should first of all be understood to “NOT BE A SECULAR BUSINESS”. Although many aspects of missions is like a business (money funds the activity on the foreign field, there are workers, there is the acquisition of funds, fundraising, promotion, etc), the basic thrust of missions is spiritual, and cannot be reduced to simple business economics.

Why God hates Calvinism

dead-at-computer

Why God hates Calvinism is a brief overview of some of the grave problems of Calvinism.

To some people, just the title of this article would be blasphemous. God is against Calvinism. Let me expand on the why of this statement.

God wants man to move morally

From what we see and understand in Scripture, God wants man to move morally. By “moving morally” I mean God wants man to repent of his sins (moral activity), and have faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior (moral action). This moral action IS THE WILL OF GOD. In parlance of Calvinists, this is the perfect will of God, not the permissive will of God. Calvinism, in itself, admits that man believing God is good and is what God wants. The Calvinist will attribute this to his concept of irresistible grace acting on the individual, but even so, it is a good thing. Duarte – The Secret Structure of Great Talks

Duarte – The Secret Structure of Great Talks is a good listen for all preachers.

http://www.ted.com/talks/nancy_duarte_the_secret_structure_of_great_talks

This is Nancy Duarte’s TEDS speech (18 minutes) about Great Talks. Although there is nothing really “Christian” about this video, it has made a big impact on me. While I watch this video I realized that a lot of the things she is saying is just good preaching. It parallels biblical preaching, i.e. present the need (sinner is under the condemnation of God), present the end result (sinner saved, living in Christ), and then present the bridge between the two, i.e. how do we get from the first point to the conclusion. Excellent speech!

Total Commander File Explorer replacement

Total Commander replaces File Explorer

Total Commander replaces File Explorer is an excellent upgrade to the in house Windows File Explorer. Use Total Commander for a couple of months and you will never go back to the Windows File Explorer. This is a Windows program.

Download Total Commander

https://www.ghisler.com/download.htm

Note that Total Commander has a paid version and a free version. Download their program (32bit or 64bit or both), and when you run it, there will be a nag screen, click on one of the three numbers they present to you, “click on number 2” (this time). After that, the program is fully functional. This is every time you open the program. Pay them their $40 one time fee, and they will send you the code to liberate the program and never see the nag screen again. It is worth it to support the program. This page deals with Total Commander replaces File Explorer.
